53 Sloan Scholarships Awarded in 2015
2015 was a great year for the Joel Sloan Florida College Camp Scholarship Fund. In 2015 the Fund awarded scholarships to 53 campers.
The recipients live in ten different states (Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, Colorado, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Carolina and Kentucky). Two campers even came from Bogota, Colombia to attend the Florida camp!
The recipients attended camps in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio and Minnesota.
The campers ranged in age from 8 to 18 and are diverse in race and ethnicity. The common theme in all campers receiving scholarships was the expressed desire to enjoy camp with a spiritual emphasis and with kids who share a common faith and belief.
Donations to the Sloan Scholarship Fund came primarily from individuals. The individuals ranged from parents whose kids previously attended a Florida College camp to people previously unfamiliar with Florida College or its camps but who knew kids that would benefit from a summer camp with a spiritual emphasis. Some donors honored the memory of others by donating to the Sloan Scholarship Fund. Special thanks also to Publix Super Markets Charities for its donation.
With a very successful 2015 camping and scholarship season behind us, we look forward to 2016. Thanks for your continued support.
A Very Special Way to Honor Someone
There are many ways to help the work of the Sloan Scholarship Fund. Dean Robertson was a faithful gospel preacher for many years. He passed away in June, 2015. His son Phil is the Director of the Florida camp. Phil generously asked that donations in his father’s memory be made to the Sloan Scholarship Fund. It is obvious from the response to Phil’s request that his father impacted many people. These donors generously provided the funds to award at least 10 Sloan Scholarships in 2016. Phil’s request shows the power of honoring someone in way that truly “pays it forward.” Thanks to the entire Robertson family for their thoughtfulness and generous gesture.
2015 Florida College Friends Generations Tour was so much fun that we thought you might want to look at their spotify playlist so that you can keep right on rockin’ this summer!
“Music is a gift. It allows us to communicate with each other in a powerful way. The Florida College Friends have been doing this for decades with our friends, alumni and prospective students. We are privileged to share the message and mission of Florida College through one of God’s most beautiful and timeless gifts.” — Adam Olson, Florida College Friends
